Double-hit on a shank illegal?

I know that the rules state that if the ball touches the racket twice before the other player hits the ball, you lose the point. Does that include the occasional shank on a shot, when the ball sort of skids across your racket and hits the strings, then the frame? I was playing a match the other day, and my opponent really persisted hat I give him the point when I shanked the ball. Is this correct?
